How to Stop Your Kids From Killing Each Other
Whenever one of my twin brothers gets something that the other doesn’t have, they start fighting with each other like a bunch of maniacs! If your family is anything like mine, here are some ways you can deal with their craziness:
Remember How Your Parents Handled Sibling Rivalry: Unless you were an only child, you probably argued with your siblings growing up! Think about the ways your parents handled fights when you were a kid and remember what did and did not work for you. By doing so, you’ll gain some strategies you can use with your own kids.
Don’t Put Any of Your Kids in Charge: Want a surefire way to get your kids to start fighting? Put one of them in charge of the other.
Nip it in the Bud: My mom’s great at listening to my brothers’ conversations and changing the subject before they start going crazy. Put a stop to arguments before they start!
Stay Out of it: Sometimes my brothers solve their own problems by just fighting it out. As long as no one’s getting hurt, some arguing can actually be healthy. By allowing your kids to (nonviolently) argue with each other, you can help them learn to deal with conflict.
Don’t Fight Around Your Kids: Even mom gets in fights sometimes! But if you can do your best to avoid fighting when your kids are around, you’ll set the example.
